Furniture Moving
One heavy piece or a few: sofas, dressers, appliances, safes and marketplace pickups, padded and carried right.
Providence Premier Movers are apartment movers in Providence, RI for studios, flats and condos. Third floor, back stairs, or a downtown elevator with a booking window, our crews have carried it.

Square feet don't decide how long an apartment move takes in Providence. The staircase does. A ground-floor one-bedroom in Elmhurst might take us three hours. Put that same bedroom set on the third floor of a triple-decker, up a back stair that turns twice, and it's closer to five. Same furniture. Different day.
So before we price anything, we ask four things: which floor, is there an elevator, where can the truck park, and what's the tightest turn. Then you get a written price within 48 hours. Honestly, the movers who skip those questions are the ones who show up with two guys for a three-guy job.

Questions?Contact UsEvery apartment is different. Here are the moves we do most weeks of the year.
Two movers and a 20 ft truck handle most studios and one-bedrooms. Three to four hours door to door is normal across town, a little more if the new place is a walk-up.
Three movers, 26 ft truck. A two-bedroom usually means a sectional, a dining set and more kitchen boxes than anyone expects. The third mover keeps a carry going on the stairs while two load the truck.
Pad, wrap, strap, then the stairs. We wrap the banister, carry in pairs and pull doors off their hinges when a couch needs another inch. A triple-decker back staircase is a ship's ladder with a landlord's paint job, so we take it one turn at a time.
Downtown towers, Capital Center condos, the Olneyville mill lofts and the newer complexes in Cranston all want an elevator booking and a certificate of insurance. Give us the manager's email. We send the paperwork before move day so nobody stands in a lobby waiting for approval.
We've seen the last week of August fill up by July. Brown, RISD, PC and Johnson & Wales leases all turn over around then, and again in early June. If your lease ends in one of those weeks, book first and pack second, or let us do the packing.
A couple of rooms, a storage unit cleanout, or just the bed and the couch. Small moving jobs still get a real crew, pads and a truck, billed on the 3-hour minimum. Just one big piece? See furniture moving. No guessing how many friends owe you a favor.

Apartment movers in Providence cost about $495 to $660 for a studio or one-bedroom and $860 to $1,290 for a two-bedroom in 2026. Hourly rates run $165 for two movers and a truck and $215 for three. Stairs, distance between buildings and how much is packed set the final number.
Those numbers sit close to the state averages. Goodmigrations puts a Rhode Island one-bedroom at about $617 and a two-bedroom at about $895 for 2026. Here's where our own hours tend to land, from jobs our Providence crews ran this year: If you're shopping for cheap movers in Providence, RI, the cheapest move is the one that's packed, measured and booked midweek before the crew arrives.
| Apartment | Crew | Typical hours | Typical price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio, elevator building | 2 movers | 3 | $495 |
| 1-bedroom, second floor | 2 movers | 3 to 4 | $495 to $660 |
| 2-bedroom, triple-decker third floor | 3 movers | 5 to 6 | $1,075 to $1,290 |
| 3-bedroom flat with storage room | 4 movers | 6 to 8 | $1,590 to $2,120 |
Stairs, long carries and boxes that aren't packed yet. In our experience a third-floor walk-up with a back stair adds an hour or two over the same flat at street level. A truck parked half a block away adds a minute to every single trip, and a two-bedroom is a lot of trips.
Ask Providence Traffic Engineering about two business days ahead and they'll post temporary no-parking signs. Figure about $80 for the posting, plus meter charges on metered blocks. We'd rather you spend the $80 than have our crew carry a dresser a block and a half down a College Hill sidewalk. Rent the sign.
Most managed buildings want three things: a certificate of insurance, an elevator booking and a move window, often 9 to 4 on weekdays. Ask the leasing office the day you sign. We'll take it from there and email the certificate straight to them. A $60 rental dolly is fine until the elevator time runs out.
Crew size, hourly rate and a time range on paper before moving day. No cash deposits.
If you own a bed, a couch and a dresser, we think so. Two movers finish most studios in about three hours, roughly $495. Add up a rental truck, gas, pads and the pizza you owe everybody, and doing it yourself lands close to that, with your own back doing the stairs.
Yes, between off-campus apartments and into storage over the summer. Residence halls are another story: most schools limit outside movers to set days and loading zones, so check the move-out rules first. Off-campus flats on College Hill and Smith Hill have no such rules. Just steep stairs, and our crews have climbed most of them.
Seven days a week, rain or snow. Month-end Saturdays go first, so a Tuesday or Wednesday is easier to get, and we think it's the better day anyway. Building elevators are free, the streets are quieter, and our 3-person crews usually finish a two-bedroom an hour sooner midweek.

A studio or one-bedroom usually costs $495 to $660 with two movers, and a two-bedroom costs $860 to $1,290 with three movers in 2026. Our rates are $165 an hour for two movers and a truck and $215 for three, with a three-hour minimum and travel time billed once.
Two weeks is enough for most dates. The end of May, early June and the last week of August are different: our crews fill three to four weeks out, because every student and lease-turnover move in Providence lands on them. Running late anyway? Call us. We take last-minute moves when a crew is free.
You don't always need one, but it helps on busy streets. Providence Traffic Engineering posts temporary no-parking signs if you apply about two business days ahead, for about $80 plus meter charges. On narrow streets near College Hill or Federal Hill, the signs keep the truck at your door.
Yes, if it fits, and we find that out before move day, not halfway up. We measure the couch and the tightest turn first. Pulling the legs, a door or a section of railing usually buys the inch we need. If it truly won't make it, we tell you up front and work out another way in.
Yes. Give us the building manager's email and their requirements, and we send the certificate of insurance before move day. Most downtown towers and mill-loft buildings in Providence ask for one, along with an elevator booking. Send the request a week early so the office has time to approve it.
