Apartment Moving
Studios to three-bedroom flats, third-floor walk-ups and elevator buildings, with the building paperwork handled.
Providence Premier Movers are movers in Pawtucket, RI for triple-decker flats, two-families and the mill lofts along the Blackstone. Three-person crews carry down back stairs, book freight elevators, pack and store, and the hourly rate is in writing first.

Pawtucket was a mill city before it was anything else, and the housing still shows it. Darlington, Woodlawn and Fairlawn are full of wooden two and three-family houses, the kind where the third-floor tenant's couch comes down a back staircase built like a ship's ladder with a landlord's paint job. Downtown, old mills along the Blackstone are apartments now, with freight elevators and loading doors. Different buildings, different plan.

Questions?Contact UsThird floor, back stairs? Tell us on the first call. Those stairs set the crew size more than the number of rooms does. A third-floor two-bedroom flat takes three movers, and we take headboards, bed rails and table legs apart before they ever reach the landing. Ground-floor units are the quick ones.
For a mill loft, book the freight elevator and ask which door the truck uses. Some buildings want a certificate of insurance, and we send it the same week. The I-95 S-curves through downtown slow trucks at rush hour, so we aim to be loaded by early afternoon. Whichever moving companies in Pawtucket, RI you call, ask who books the elevator and who sends the insurance paper.
Pawtucket has 75,604 people and about 33,800 homes, which makes it Rhode Island's fourth-largest city. It borders Providence, and most addresses are 10 to 15 minutes from downtown on I-95. A lot of people move between the two cities, often from a Providence apartment into a Pawtucket two-family they bought to live in one floor and rent the other.
The classic Pawtucket job. A front porch with six to ten steps, a front stair that turns twice, and a back stair that's steeper but straighter. We carry long pieces down the back, small ones down the front, and pad every banister on the way. Two movers stay inside, one runs the porch and the truck.
Converted mills downtown and near Slater Mill have big open units, long corridors and shared freight elevators. They're easier on the back than a triple-decker but slower on the clock, because everything rides the elevator. Four-wheel dollies and a mover posted at the elevator keep it moving.
Bigger single-family Victorians and colonials on the hill, with plaster walls and wide but steep stairs. Plaster cracks if a dresser corner touches it, so door jamb pads and wall pads go up before anything moves.
Since the Pawtucket/Central Falls station opened on the MBTA line in January 2023, we've moved more families down from the Boston area. Those are interstate moves with federal paperwork, covered on our long distance moving page.
Most Pawtucket moves cost $495 to $2,300 in 2026. Two movers and a truck are $165 an hour, three are $215 and four are $265, with a 3-hour minimum. A third-floor flat costs more than a first-floor one with the same rooms, because the stairs add time. Travel is billed once, usually 20 minutes.
| Pawtucket move | Crew | Typical hours | Typical price |

| 2-bedroom, third floor with back stairs | 3 movers | 5 to 6 | $1,075 to $1,400 |
| Mill loft with freight elevator | 3 movers | 4 to 6 | $860 to $1,400 |
| 3-bedroom single-family | 3 or 4 movers | 6 to 8 | $1,290 to $2,300 |
Here's one we do more in Pawtucket than anywhere else: an owner moving from the rented third floor down to the first, or the other way round, in the same building. No truck needed for most of it. It's billed by the hour like any move, usually two movers for three to four hours, and it's the only move where the drive takes zero minutes.
We've also moved tenants out and owners in on the same day in one house. Top floor goes first, then the first floor moves up, then the new tenant's truck. It takes a schedule, not luck.
Outside porch stairs and back stairs ice over. On a winter move we salt and sand the steps we use, lay runners from the door to the truck, and wrap upholstery in plastic over the pads so wet snow doesn't soak in. A nor'easter can push a move a day; we'd rather call you two days early than at 7 in the morning.
Every three-family job starts the same way. Floor runners go on the landings and door jamb protectors on the tight frames. Then banister padding goes on the rail. The back stair takes the long pieces on a four-wheel dolly to the bottom step and by hand above it. The fridge rides an appliance hand truck. Mattresses go in a mattress bag, and loose cushions get shrink wrap so they survive the porch. Boston movers coming down should show you their USDOT number and the FMCSA booklet before they load.
Moving across the river instead? We cover East Providence too, from Rumford to Riverside.
They take longer, so yes. We charge by the hour, not by the floor, but a third-floor flat with a back staircase takes about an hour or two more than the same flat on the first floor. We usually send three movers to keep the stairs moving and the total down.
Usually, by turning it on its side at the landing. A king box spring often won't make the turn, which is why many split king sets exist. We check the stair width and the turn on the walk-through and tell you before the day what will and won't fit.
Many do. Send us the building manager's email when you book, and we send a certificate of insurance naming the building before the day. Book the freight elevator yourself through the office and tell us the time window, and we schedule the crew around it.
Yes. Moves from the Boston area to Pawtucket are interstate, so they come with a written estimate after a walk-through or video call, the federal rights booklet, and a choice of coverage. A two-bedroom usually costs $1,900 to $3,200 depending on stairs at both ends.
Yes. Uprights go on a piano board with three movers; porch steps are common and fine. A third-floor piano takes four movers and more time, and some stairways are too tight to turn one at all, so we look first. Local upright moves usually cost $325 to $575.
