Apartment Moving
Studios to three-bedroom flats, third-floor walk-ups and elevator buildings, with the building paperwork handled.
Providence Premier Movers are movers in East Greenwich, RI for old village houses, apartments over the Main Street shops and five-bedroom homes on the west side of town. We pack, protect the floors, move the piano and store what doesn't fit yet.

East Greenwich is small, about 14,300 people, and the houses run old. Some on the hill above the cove went up in the 1700s and still have the original stair rail. Those get blankets taped round the banister and a runner on every floorboard before the first box comes down. Old houses, slow hands. Out west the job changes: newer homes, long driveways, four or five bedrooms, and a garage that always takes longer than the owner thinks.

Questions?Contact UsMain Street is one lane each way with parking on both sides, and the side streets drop steeply toward the water. For a village house we plan where the truck stops before we plan anything else. Sometimes it's the side street, sometimes a driveway two doors down with the neighbor's blessing. On a summer evening near the waterfront restaurants, parking gets scarce fast. Mornings are better.
Bigger houses on the west side are usually a two-day job: one day to pack, one to move. We'd say book three weeks out for a four or five-bedroom house, and longer for the last week of June, when a lot of school-year families close. Two days, one plan.
East Greenwich is the Kent County seat, founded in 1677, and it has about 5,500 homes. Almost all of them are lived in, so a move here is usually one family out and another in on the same week. That puts a premium on finishing on time.
Around Main Street and the hill above Greenwich Cove you'll find colonial, Federal and Victorian houses, some with stone-ender chimneys and stairs that wind. Doorways can be under 30 inches. We measure the narrowest door and the stair turn on the walk-through, and anything that won't fit gets taken apart and reassembled, not forced.
Apartments over the shops have narrow stairs, often from a side or rear door. A two-bedroom with stairs like that takes three movers four to five hours. We stage the truck on the closest legal spot and keep the sidewalk clear for the shops.
Bigger lots and bigger houses: four and five bedrooms, finished basements, full attics and three-car garages. These take four movers and a 26 ft truck, sometimes two trucks. Packing a house like this is two to three days for a crew of three.
Condo complexes off Division Street and South County Trail, and rentals near the New England Institute of Technology campus. These are short, quick moves, often two movers and three or four hours.
East Greenwich moves usually cost $560 to $3,200 in 2026, depending mostly on house size and stairs. Two movers and a truck are $165 an hour, three are $215 and four are $265, with a 3-hour minimum. Travel from our yard is billed once, about 25 to 30 minutes for East Greenwich.

Old houses come with old furniture. A tall case clock gets its pendulum and weights removed and packed separately. A marble-topped dresser travels with the marble off and crated. Grand pianos come apart at the legs and lyre, go on their side onto a piano board, and ride strapped to the truck wall.
Basic mover coverage is 60 cents a pound per item, which pays about $36 for a 60 lb antique chair. For anything you'd miss, we'd recommend full value protection, and we explain the cost before the day so it's your choice.
I-95 or Route 4 to Route 2 gets us to downtown Providence in 20 to 25 minutes when traffic behaves. We load East Greenwich in the morning and drive before 3 pm. If you're moving down from a College Hill apartment, we file for the Providence no-parking signs two business days ahead.
Antique-heavy houses get more paper and more cardboard. Each framed painting goes in a mirror carton. The good china goes in a dish pack, with kraft paper and newsprint between the plates. Hanging clothes ride in a wardrobe carton. Floor runners and banister padding go down before we lift anything. Then a four-wheel dolly saves the old floorboards from being walked on more than they need to be. Moving out of state? Look up the mover's USDOT number on the FMCSA site first, ours included.
Our crews are in Johnston a lot too, if you're looking at houses west of Providence instead.
Yes. We measure the tightest door and the stair turn first. Beds and tables come apart, mirrors come off dressers, and doors come off their hinges when we need the extra inch. If a piece truly won't go, we tell you before the day rather than scraping a 200-year-old wall.
A four or five-bedroom house takes a crew of three one to two days to pack, more with a full attic or a big kitchen. We pack the day before the move, label every box by room and leave the beds and one set of dishes for last.
Yes. A grand piano move in East Greenwich usually costs $650 to $1,200 depending on stairs and distance. We remove the legs and lyre, wrap the body, strap it to a piano board and move it on its side with three or four movers.
Sometimes, for a short load during quiet hours, but we don't count on it. We look at the block on the walk-through and pick the nearest legal spot. For an apartment over a shop, a side street or the rear entrance is usually faster and keeps the sidewalk open.
Yes. We load your furniture into sealed wooden vaults at the house and keep them in climate-controlled storage. When the work is done, we deliver everything back, room by room. Storage runs $95 to $150 a month per vault, and a four-bedroom house usually fills six to eight.
